The Edson Healthcare Centre (EHC) replaced an aging hospital site with a new campus of over 236,800 square feet on a greenfield site nestled in the rocky mountain foothills. Designed to feel more like a home than a hospital, the EHC is a full service rural healthcare facility providing acute care, continuing care, and primary care services in a single location. The centre consists of a main hospital, a 76-bed continuing care facility, and a community health and wellness clinic. Offering acute care beds, ambulatory care, 24-hour emergency care, diagnostic imaging and laboratory, surgical suites, renal dialysis, mental health services, long term care, and a physicians’ clinic, the facility boasts views of forested areas from patient rooms in the main hospital and the continuing care centre.

After a competitive bidding process through the general contractor, Royal Stamp was awarded the contract for fabrication and installation of all interior and exterior signage and wall graphics. The interior signage included washroom and stair signs, station and room ID, wayfinding signs, directories, regulatory signs, vinyl graphics, and dimensional lettering. The exterior signage included illuminated pylons, building lettering, vehicular directional signs, and parking signs. The wall graphics were fabricated and installed throughout the facility, and featured the works of local photographers.

Throughout the project we worked closely with project managers and owner representatives to develop and implement a sign system which would be high quality, robust, attractive, cost effective, and readily updateable. Initial site meetings were held, samples and prototypes were provided, followed by shop drawings, fabrication, and coordinating the installation with site trades and user groups. Engineer stamped drawings were provided for exterior signage and permit applications were submitted. Print samples of the wall graphics were created to ensure that we were capturing the full range of color and vibrancy that each unique photographer had intended.
