The Grande Prairie Regional Hospital is a 681,000 square foot facility which functions as a much- needed healthcare hub for all of northern Alberta. This state of the art facility provides a wide range of healthcare services including surgery, cancer care, critical care, emergency, and mental health services. It houses 243 single inpatient rooms, several specialized outpatient programs, as well as an educational facility in partnership with Grande Prairie Regional College for the training of nurses and other healthcare professionals.

After a highly competitive bidding process, Royal Stamp was awarded the contract for fabrication and installation of all interior, exterior, and traffic signage. Due to the size of the facility and varied mix of services, the amount of signage required was extensive. There were over 4300 interior signs, 120 exterior signs, and 100 traffic signs, encompassing more than 130 different sign types. Interior signage included base building signage with tactile and braille, room and station ID, wayfinding signs, directories, staff workstation signs, vinyl lettering and graphics, and dimensional lettering. Exterior signs included illuminated pylons and building lettering, vehicular directional signs, parking lot signage, regulatory signs, and all traffic signage.

Our role involved initial site meetings, consultation, sign design including developing samples and mockups, creation of shop drawings, fabrication, and installation. Throughout the project we worked closely with Clark Builders, the architect, and AHS. For the exterior signage our scope also included all of the concrete and hydrovac work, utility locates, providing engineered drawings, and permits. This involved working collaboratively with locate, concrete, and hydrovac subcontractors, as well as the City of Grande Prairie to ensure compliance with their unique requirements.
